Adam and Eve had to rule over fish and frogs; we have computers and cars and jobs and budgets and sports and ministries and community service projects and quality family time—and the list goes on and on.

But stop and think for a minute about this command to rule. The earth was made for people to discover and enjoy—and to subdue. Now, more than ever, it seems that people are being subdued by the pressing needs around them, rather than subduing those needs and bringing them under control as God commanded. Subduing means simply bringing things under authority. Married couples must prioritize their lives so that everything is brought under the authority of the Scriptures.
